Jade Downie-Landry had a hat-trick and added an assist to lead the Montreal Force a 5-3 win over the Metropolitan Riveters in the Premier Hockey Federation team’s home opener Saturday at the Verdun Auditorium.
Downie-Landry, a former standout for the McGill Martlets, scored power-play goal, a short-handed goal and an even-strength goal and added an assist on a power play by Brooke Staley.

Team captain Ann-Sophie Bettez scored the other goal for the expansion team, which boosted its record to 2-1-0. Tricia Deguire made 19 saves for the win.
“Great game, started with nervousness in the first five to seven, but we built momentum and I really liked our third period,” said coach Peter Smith. “We moved the puck real well and the special teams did amazing as well.
“The penalty kill and the power play were good. A lot of positives today and something to build up.”

The Force scored three unanswered goals in the third period to open a 5-2 lead.
Fanni Garat Gasparics, Sarah Bujold and Kennedy Ganser scored for the New Jersey-based Riveters, who fell to 1-3-0.
Attendance at the game was 3,200.
The Force and the Riveters will play again Sunday at Raymond Bourque Arena in St-Laurent with a 2 pm start.
